Sigma Mrs. Bunny Essential Kit Review

DSC00491bYou can call this the most long overdue post in the history of MGD or the review of my Sigma Mrs. Bunny Essential Brush Kit! I received these for Christmas and I’ve been in love since the very first use. As a good blogger, I took pictures immediately before I even let them touch my face, but unfortunately they ended up in some rando folder. Alas, they’ve been found and the review is happening. Read on.
DSC00489bThe Mrs. Bunny Essential Kit is an adorable set of 12 Vegan Friendly brushes in a perfect travel tube that are made with Sigma’s famous Sigmax HD which besides the look of the brushes was the biggest selling point for me. They’re made to flawlessly apply both powder AND cream products with ease. I’ve never been one to shell out money on expensive makeup brushes, but I realized that if I’m spending the money on expensive makeup, I need to buy brushes that make those products look amazing. I’m SO glad I did because it changed the way my makeup looked because of how these brushes picked up and distributed product on my face and eyes. They make everything so blended and smooth. They’re SO worth it.
DSC00490bDuo Fibre F50, Large Powder F30, Large Angled Contour F40,  Foundation F60, Large Shader E60, Tapered Blending E40, Medium Angled Shading E70, Eye Shading E55, Concealer F70, Pencil E30, Eyeliner E05, Small Angle E65

I was really worried that they wouldn’t look or work as well after the first or second or even 50th wash and they did! They still work just as well today as they did back in December! I use them everyday and travel with them and honestly they’re worth every penny and for the price PER brush, they’re way less expensive than other high end brands such as MAC or Bobbi Brown.

DSC00492bAs you can see if you check out the Sigma brushes now, these have pink ferrules and the new version has the sleek slilver!! If you’re looking for makeup brushes, definitely check out this set or the travel version of Mrs. Bunny! They’re also available in the Mr. Bunny which has black handles. Plus, any Sigma Beauty purchase over $30 qualifies you for a free gift if you use that link or click through the link on my sidebar!! :)

It’s very hydrating and the SPF is perfect to protect one of the most exposed parts of your body from the sun! The last and my most favorite product that was included was a nail polish specifically made for the thePinkPanel called Nail tini. It was completely opaque and smooth in one coat and was such a great formula. Plus it was the most perfect PINK!

Friday Favorite on Tueday: BA STAR Smoky Eyeshadow Palette

I’m excited to share last week’s Friday Favorite as this great eyeshadow/highlight palette and this great makeup brand, BA Star. Before I get into the review and swatches, does anyone remember that Lindsay Lohan (pre blonde/drug days) and Tyra Bank’s movie, LifeSize, and there was that song Shine bright, shine far, don’t be shy, be a star!!? The name of this brand totally reminded me of that. haha. I received this sample shadow palette to review and please remember I do not offer anything less than 100% honesty in a review and only on products I feel are applicable to my blog. :) BA Star is one of the top makeup and beauty brands for Dancers, Cheerleaders, and Entertainers. Their brand is affordable and great for not only performers, but for the everyday girl especially with their new Smoky Eye Eyeshadow Palettes. They’re available for $8.75 retail (keep reading for a 50% off code!!) and in four different color combinations: Smoky, Natural, Pretty N Pink, & True Blue! I received the Natural one which was perfect for me and my taste in makeup.

Each palette is made up of five shades: 3 highly pigmented, long wearing mineral eyeshadows and 2 glitter highlighting gels. There’s also a double ended mini brush and applicator for use on the go if you’re in a pinch.

The palette is a sturdy plastic and perfect for travel which obviously makes it ideal for a performance situation.

bronze and cocoa

cocoa, nude, and gold glitter

nude, gold glitter, and crystal glitter

The pigmentation on these is crazy. The texture is very smooth and almost cream like. I would say it’s consistent with a cream to powder finish on the shadows. They’re easily blendable and wear for about 8-9 hours with a primer and about 5-6 without. The glitter is as expected very glittery. It’s a gel base that isn’t too sticky or chunky and would probably work best for a dancer, cheerleader, stage type situation. It’s not an everyday thing for me, but they’re very pigmented as well.

I have been wearing these everyday this past week and have so enjoyed the versatility with just these three shadows. You can do an easy quick look with just the light vanilla Nude colored shade all over the lid or you can do a brown smokey eye with the deep Cocoa shade. I got quite a few compliments on how pretty they are on the eye at work. This has definitely become one of my staple neutral palettes.

Now, if you’re interested in this Natural Shadow palette or one of the other three Smoky Eyeshadow Palettes from BA STAR, you can get 50% Off with the code: BBSMOKY

*As previously stated, I received this sample from BA STAR to review powdered by BrandBacker. All opinions are 100% honest and my own. I only review and accept samples for products that are applicable to my blog.

Rave Review: Urban Decay The Glinda Palette

I’m so very excited about this rave review today! I wasn’t sure I was going to even do it, but since I took the photos and everything, I thought why not? This is a single product review of the limited edition Urban Decay Oz the Great and Powerful Glinda Palette. It is one of two limited edition eyeshadow palettes Urban Decay has released for the Oz the Great and Powerful movie. This is the lighter, more feminine “good witch” palette for Glinda.

The packaging is similar to most other smaller six pan Urban Decay palettes except for the fact that eyeshadows are able to be popped out like their Build Your Own Palette system. It is a rounded square shaped tin which isn’t an ideal size for travel, but it’s definitely not too bulky. I feel like it’s sturdier than the NAKED palettes.  It also has a fairly decent sized mirror on the other half of the palette.

There are 8 brand new shadows in this palette all themed around the Good Witch. As with most Urban Decay shadows, they’re soft, buttery, and crazy pigmented. This palette introduces two duo shades with the pan split in half with two shades. They are .05 oz. which is the same size as each shadow in the NAKED palettes.

Tornado -vibrant deep purple shimmer

Aura – iridescent white with blue shift and iridescent white with red shift

Magic – pinkish purple with golden shimmer

Illusion – pale peach satin

Oz – gold with gold glitter and silver with silver glitter

South – warm pale gray shimmer with silver micro glitter

These are swatched backwards from the list above. The shades are all very pigmented as one would come to expect with Urban Decay without any fall out.. They have amazing lasting power especially over a primer or base. I love how girly the shades are. I’ve also swatched the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Rockstar which is a deep eggplant and also the Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Color in Glinda which is a light sheer nude included with the palette. Both of these are fabulous especially the lip pencil. They compliment the shades in the palette so well. (I had separate pictures of these, but I can’t seem to find them on my iPhoto)

The palette also includes a little guide to the Glinda eye look just like Michelle Williams as Glinda in the film which is a great starting point for any fabulous eye looks.

I think this is a fabulous collector’s palette beautifully showcasing Glinda from Oz the Great and Powerful at $49. I’m totally in love with all of the colors and It’s a great palette to add to your collection too! (Unless you’re less good witch and more bad witch like Theodora)

Branded: MAC Cosmetics

Recently during a conversation with C of Kennedys Amongst Kardashians about some of my favorite MAC products, she suggested an amazing idea for a blogpost that I had never thought of: a beginners guide to MAC Products.  I decided to expanded that to this feature: BRANDED, a must have guide to a single brand of makeup. Because of C’s idea, I thought it was only appropriate to start with MAC Cosmetics. MAC was my first brand of makeup and I’ve tried tons of different products of theirs, so I feel like I have a pretty good idea about which ones to start out with. MAC is a great starting brand into high end makeup because the price isn’t excessive and they have one of the widest ranges of cosmetics available. Of course with this post and with any future BRANDED posts, I’m not suggesting to go run out and buy every item I’m showing. These are going to be my favorites and the ones that work for a wide variety of skin tones, eye colors, etc!

Mineralize Skinfinish Natural / Honeylove Lipstick / Russian Red Lipstick / Bombshell Lipstick / Cream Colour Base in Pearl / Studio Finish SPF35 Concealer / Gingerly Blush / Well Dressed Blush / Underage Lipglass / Naked Lunch Eyeshadow / Woodwinked Eyeshadow / Satin Taupe Eyeshadow / Cork Eyeshadow / Painterly Paint Pot

Stand Outs:

Gingerly Blush- a great neutral bronze blush that can work as a blush or a light bronzer

Cream Colour Base in Pearl- a great multipurpose product that’s a great highlighter and eye base

Cork Eyeshadow- my first MAC eyeshadow is an amazing matte shadow for all over the lid or in the crease

What are your favorite MAC products?

2012 Makeup Favorites

Every year since Han and I started Beauty Forum, I’ve looked forward to this post. Last year it was in video form on my Youtube Beauty Channel (RIP). Since I quit my videos, I knew a post was obligatory. Top 12 of 2012 just sounds better than Top 45 of 2012. Literally, my list of favorites was a mile long, but I’ve condensed myself to 16 individual items, but 12 products. (You’ll see what I mean.) Just another tid bit — there is no mascara on this list because I change my mascara constantly and didn’t find myself repurchasing just one and I did try to stick to almost all regular line products except for a few limited edition that were musts. You’ll see some repeats from my everyday makeup as well.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation– This was my stand out foundation of the year and also one of the priciest items on the list. I’m obsessed with it. It’s a medium to full coverage cream foundation. If you’re looking for something with heavy oil free coverage that will last you a long time, this is it! ($43)

MAC Studio Finish SPF35 Concealer– The best concealer I used all year and also one of my Handbag Heroes, so I won’t go into much detail, but it’s great at covering blemishes and redness! ($18)

NARS Joie de Vivre Cheek Palette– I promised there wouldn’t be too many limited edition items, but this was a stand out and HAD to be included. I got this during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and it quickly sold out unfortunately. It’s great for travel because it has four blushes (Orgasm, Luster, Angelika, Gaiety), a bronzer (Laguna), and a highlighter (Albatross). NARS blushes and bronzer are my favorites around, so I highly recommend checking any of those colors out because they’re all universal and wonderful quality.

theBalm Schwing Liquid Eyeliner– I’m so picky about my liquid eyeliner, but this one is a great matte black that’s long lasting, but not hard to get off at night. It dries quick and is the first liquid liner that doesn’t flake off and isn’t a pain to apply. ($17)

MAC Eyeshadows in Quarry & Saddle– Here’s one place where I cheated. Two MAC eyeshadows that have been my absolute go to’s. They’re both easy matte colors that look awesome on brown eyes. I usually sweep Quarry (soft muted plum brown) across my lid and then follow it up with Saddle (golden orange brown) in my crease or vice versa. ($15)

Urban Decay NAKED2 Palette– It’s hard to believe that this palette has only been out a year because I’ve been using it like crazy alternating with my regular NAKED palette all year. This one has more mattes and more taupe/grey type shades. It gives you a nice variety to create any look you want. ($50)

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze– Another one that I can’t believe has only been out a year. While I have all of these amazing cream shadow shades (literally), there is one standout — Bad to the Bronze. It’s an amazing taupey bronzy perfection that can be worn under shadows or by itself and still look so done on your eyes. It’s a drugstore must have! ($4.99)

MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork– I love MAC Paint Pots and I think this one has to be my favorite for everyday all year long because it’s a neutral satin taupe (surprise, surprise). I use it quite frequently under any eyeshadows because I know it will keep them in place all day and it’s a great base. ($18.50)

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in 05 Mouthwatering Berry– Oh hi go to lip color of the year! This was featured in my Berry Beautiful Lips post and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I use it daily and it’s easy to just sweep on while keeping my lips hydrated and pigmented for a long time. It’s amazing — pricey, but worth it. ($30)

Revlon Lip Butters in Pink Truffle, Candy Apple, & Peach Parfait– This was the year of the glossy pigmented almost lip stick, partially balm type products. Again, while I have them in a lot of shades — these three are my favorite. I used Pink Truffle for a quick everyday lip, Candy Apple for special occasions (my 21st birthday!)/an amazing red lip, and Peach Parfait was my summer favorite. They’re inexpensive and come in a variety of shades. ($6.49)

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm– These are my favorite lip balms because they’re tinted and each smell uniquely wonderful. I love them and for the price, you might as well buy them all and keep one or two in your purse, desk, wallet etc. They’re also pretty moisturizing for a cutesy lip balm! ($2.99)

MAC Lipstick in Party Parrot– While Mouthwatering Berry was my go to lip color, MAC Party Parrot (a sadly limited edition lipstick that is again sold out on MAC’s website) was me in a lipstick. It was another special occasion color that quickly become a signature for me. It’s a bright red pink that is just to die for. Check your local MAC stores because it was recently repromoted and you might be able to get your hands on it!

Well, that was a lot of products. Please share your 2012 makeup favorites with me too because who knows, they could become 2013 favorites!

Berry Beautiful Lips

One of my absolute favorite fall makeup trends is always berry lips. I don’t wear a lot of color on my lips during the spring and summer, but I thoroughly enjoy rocking the sultry berry lip during the fall and winter. It also can be a little more muted and neutral compared to a red lip which can be scary if you’re not used to a lot of color.  Thankfully there’s lots of options for every skin tone, comfort level, and budget. These 6 are my personal favorites and I think there might be one or two you’ll fall in love with this season. I planned on doing lip swatches as well, but unfortunately they just turned out really awkward where I was making duck face after duck face for the camera…haha.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie– This is the most dramatic of all six and not for the faint of heart. It’s glossy and truly proves that you don’t have to compromise pigmentation for price! ($6.49)

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Satin Plum– This beautiful pearl finish plum is perfect for everyday. It can be paired with virtually any eye look and work on a lot of skin tones. ($5.99)

Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lipgloss in 07 Shimmery Purple Red– This is the richest gloss and full of opalescent shimmers throughout. It’s a smooth and beautiful raspberry. ($14, full size)

MAC Lipstick in Hot Gossip– A pinky plum creamsheen that can be layered for a deeper color, but easily worn with one quick swipe over the lips for day or night. ($15)

Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Dolly– One of my favorite lipgloss formulas in the most beautiful muted berry that looks wonderful on it’s own or layered over any of the other lipsticks for an added plump. ($19)

YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in Mouthwatering Berry– The newest find and by far my favorite. It’s a great everyday purse essential because it’s as smooth and creamy as a balm, but so pigmented. The color gets a bit darker on your lips and pulls your whole simple makeup look together. Pricey, but worth it. ($30)

I’m always looking for more beautiful berry lipglosses or lipsticks. If you have a favorite, leave it in the comments, so I can check it out too! :)

Tarina Tarantino Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette Review

If you haven’t heard, the wonderful cosmetics brand, Tarina Tarantino, is being discontinued from Sephora. While this is the bad news, there is good news: all of her products are up to 40% off. I decided to take advantage of this because while I had her great things about her, I had never taken the opportunity to pick up any. Temptalia is always raving about her shadows and blushes, so when I saw this gorgeous green packaging with 6 beautiful shadows, I was immediately drawn to it. The Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette is six buttery and highly pigmented shadows inspired by none other than the Emerald City of The Wizard of Oz.

The packaging is so pretty and was the first thing that drew me in. The palette comes in the same color box as the actual palette and was super hard to photograph because it was so shiny. The actual palette is on the smaller side. Here it is compared to the Urban Decay NAKED palette:

Length wise, it’s shorter than the NAKED, but it is definitely wider. It’s still travel appropriate in my opinion. It won’t be too bulky because it’s not very thick. It’s that nicer heavy duty cardboard which gives a better cushion for the shadows if you’re prone to dropping your palettes.

The inside is very Emerald City. It has a lot of wasted space around the edges because the shadows are concentrated towards the middle, but it doesn’t bother me. There is also a good sized mirror on the inside of the lid which is also great for travel or on the go purposes.

These colors are unlike any I have in my collection to be honest. They are very unique and inspired solely by The Wizard of Oz which I thought was adorable. The names are downright precious. But there’s nothing worse than something with a cute name and the product just sucks. Thankfully these shadows seriously exceeded all of my expectations and might be one of my favorite eyeshadow formulas ever. They were all so incredibly pigmented and buttery. I was so impressed. The colors are very true to what they are in the pan as well which I love. There’s even a great pigmented matte shade (Saw Dust Heart) which was completely unexpected.

Glinda’s Kiss – iridescent white

Silver Shoes – pearlized charcoal gray/silver

Dandy Lion – rich olive green with gold sheen

Saw Dust Heart – burgundy chocolately matte brown

Ozma – metallic blue teal

Very Wicked – murky emerald green

These shades were all easily swatched in one swipe and were so smooth. They applied even better on the eye than in the swatch if that’s even imaginable. They were rich and not chalky and I didn’t experience any fallout or blending issues. They can even be used wet or dry. The top swatches are dry and the bottom swatches are wet! I love that. They wore beautifully with and without a primer without any signs of creasing after my 9 hour day. I also adore the versality of the colors. They’re all amazing stand alone shades, but there are so many combinations together. I’m a matte girl, so I’m really partial to Saw Dust Heart. I think it’s a gorgeous crease color and it’s also great for a softer smokey eye. Like I said earlier, I don’t have any dupes of these shades in my collection and I think if you’re a collector these are shades you NEED to have. Here’s the amazing price breakdown: this palette was originally $36, it’s now marked down to $22!!! Each shadow is .09 oz!!!!!!! (Urban Decay’s NAKED palettes and MAC Shadows are .05 oz for comparison) That’s absolutely insane value wise. That is about $3.66 per shadow, but with the size of the shadows (almost double MAC & Urban Decay) you’re getting SO much more for your money.

I think buying the Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette is an absolute no brainer especially if you’re a makeup hoarder like I am. But even if you’re not and you’re just looking to maybe expand your eyeshadow routine, these super unique colors are amazing quality and they’re so versatile in creating daytime and night time looks. I’d snatch it up fast because Tarina Tarantino is only going to be sold until the end of the year and who knows how long this palette will stay in stock for!!
