Bedroom Decor

DSC04810bWhen we moved early last year, I was excited to have a blank slate to decorate my bedroom. It’s literally been a work in progress ever since then. I’m finally really pleased with where it is now. I started just with the basic color scheme of Robins Egg Blue and White and then things really just went from there. I will link to items where I can, but my biggest tip is to head to Marshall’s and Kirkland’s! I found so many adorable finishing touches there for so inexpensive. Also, my room is only 10 x 10, so I had to fit a lot in a small amount of space and as you’ll see my bookshelf is more for functionality than styling purposes. (Minus my cowboy boots!)

okay, let’s not talk about how unorganized my nail polish is…

I hope you enjoyed this bedroom tour. I had a lot of fun taking these and can’t wait to show you my closet…when it’s not a total disaster.

Two Years

My heart is so full today because of that kid up there. It was two years ago today that after one date and just a couple of days, Fancy Pants, asked me to be his girlfriend. I knew I was lucky, but with each passing day I’ve found more reasons that I’m the luckiest. After a few failed relationships, a broken heart or two, my confidence and faith in love was basically zilch, non existent. That boy changed all of that.

I got a job at a math tutoring center in January 2009 and this guy came in tuesday and thursday and hassled me for answers, constantly made me laugh, and even followed me home a time or two. ;) Sparks flew. Fast forward two years later, one facebook chat, and a few hour long date over Chipotle, Cold Stone, and Build A Bear and I was falling. Now I sit here, two years later wondering where the time went. We’ve seen each other through ups, downs, and changes galore. He gets me. Fancy Pants is one of the most giving, kind, caring, and amazing people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. His dreams are big, but his heart is even bigger. He keeps me strong and is my constant source of encouragement and motivation. I’m so blessed that God gave me this incredible human being. Even through the tough days, I know I can always count on him for a laugh and smile. I’ve never had such chemistry or clicked so well with anyone, like I do with FP. He’s my other half.

I could go on and on, believe me I would, but I think you get the picture. He’s wonderful. Two years flew by and I absolutely cannot wait to see what’s in store for the next hundred or so. ;) I know God has big things in store for each of us and even more for us together. I love you so mush, darling. Thank you for being the best thing that’s ever happened to me, truly. I couldn’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.

Always, Danielle

DIY Yogurt Bar

Photo-Aug-01,-8-56-43-AMLooking for a fun and festive and inexpensive addition to any party or event? Create a Yogurt Bar. Froyo has been all the rage for a bit now with a new frozen yogurt bar on every other corner. This is a fun do-it-yourself twist on that. At work, for every staff member’s birthday we celebrate usually with a cake, cookies, some kind of dessert you can stick a candle in and we sing to them. I’m always tasked as the one to make it happen because this kind of stuff really is my niche. I’ve been seeing pins pop up for yogurt bars for brunches and sleepovers and decided to tackle one for our next staff meeting/set of two birthdays. It took me no more than an hour of prep (shopping and set up) and it was a hit!

Photo-Aug-01,-8-56-52-AMWhat You’ll Need:

  • Yogurt (I chose Dannon Plain Flavor and Dannon Vanilla)
  • Large Serving Bowls for the Yogurt (I got these plastic ones for $1 each at none other than the Dollar Store)
  • Small Serving Bowls for the Toppings (Again, $1 each!!)
  • Toppings (Some examples: fruits, berries, granola, chocolate chips, sprinkles, coconut, anything your heart desires basically!)
  • Plastic Mini Champagne Glasses ($1 for a set of 4!)
  • Punch Serving Spoons for the Yogurt
  • Spoons  for the Toppings and to enjoy

Photo-Aug-01,-8-57-07-AMVisually it was quite adorable with the toppings and the little glasses and it took little effort. Of course you can always add personal touches to tie into your decor or color scheme with the spoons or tags for each topping or yogurt flavor. But it’s a simple idea that will sure to impress your guests.

San Diego Recap

DSC04127bIt’s always better late than never in my book. I’m finally posting my San Diego recap. San Diego is probably my favorite place in the world. If I could live anywhere, it’d be here. I’ve been here no less than 15 times and I find something new to fall in love with every time. It also holds a special place in my heart because the first time I went was the last family vacation when my parents were still together and it was also the first vacation that Fancy Pants and I took together for his 19th birthday. This trip was solely intended for the OMBAC Over the Line Championship which FP and I both played in. (If you don’t know what Over the Line is, I have pictures below or just google it haha) We played all day Saturday, but were able to spend the rest of the weekend enjoying SD and the beautiful California sunshine!

DSC04103bFriday: We used Friday to explore the area around our hotel: the Hilton Bayfront. In all of the times I’ve been to SD, I had never been in this area near the Padres stadium. It was really cool to be downtown even though we got a bit lost. Fancy Pants also took me to Seaport Village which is like a town within SD and it was absolutely perfect right on the water. You must must MUST go. We ate a delicious dinner with a view of the bay at the Harbor House. The whole night was perfect just getting to walk for miles even though I had blisters for days.
DSC04132bSaturday: The day started bright and early at Fiesta Island as in 6:30 am early. The day drinking had already begun even before the first balls were hit at 7:30, so you can imagine what it was like by 7:30 that night. The boys played consistently well all day and didn’t lose their first game until around 2 pm which was awesome. The girls on the other hand started the day with the bye and we didn’t even play once until after 1 which was ridiculous. The boys were one game away from making it to the next round the following weekend which was awesome  for them, but unfortunately our team were literally 2 and done because of the double elimination. We went home in a packed SUV of 7 with sunburns and exhaustion.
DSC04192bSunday: SEAWORLD DAY! Seriously, I was pumped for this all weekend. Ever since we didn’t get to go for my birthday, I’ve been dying to go. Fancy Pants and I both love Sea World and hadn’t been in years and were stoked to go! We had an amazing day full of shows, KILLER WHALES, sea animals, laughing, and lathering each other with aloe and sunscreen all day. Thank you so much hun for the best day ever and also making me face my fear of heights with the scary Bayside Skyride that ironically had the best views of the whole city! (prepare for picture overload because we couldn’t get enough!)
DSC04396bMonday: We decided to spend our last day on Coronado Island at the beach. We caught the ferry behind our hotel in the morning and walked all the way through town to the Hotel del Coronado, which is again, one of my favorite places. (What isn’t though?) Being on the beach and island with FP was the perfect end to an amazing trip.
DSC04460bI think it’s a bit obvious by the pictures that we had an incredible time and it was the perfect summer getaway. I literally have no idea how I’m going to document our two and half week vacation to Italy without literally creating a whole separate blog. haha, but we’ll cross that bridge in October when we get there. ;)

Weekly Notes

This is the quote currently found on the white board in my newly rearranged office. I thought about how accurate it was that I keep pushing for things to happen that just won’t happen. The only result of beating on a wall for too long is you’ll end up hurting yourself not the wall. Because it just won’t open the opportunities of a door. If you’ve noticed (I hope you’ve noticed!) that I haven’t been posting on MGD this week and it’s Wednesday…wahhh!? Yeah. Just too much swirling around in my head and in my life to get a legitimate post together.  I have 4 drafts written, yuck! So I figured a Weekly Notes post was the easiest way to hopefully get me out of this rut.

  • Some weeks are just crap, but there’s always little reminders of the good in your life.
  • You can’t control other people’s actions, you can only control how you react.
  • If your windshield wiper blade is broken, get it fixed asap because it will rain and you’ll regret not being able to see while driving home.
  • Don’t try to get through 6 one hour tv shows on your DVR before bed because you will fall asleep on the couch and not wake up until 5:30 am and that SUCKS.
  • If you’re ready to talk about something, talk. If you don’t want to talk or you’re not ready, don’t. Not speaking is better than saying things you’ll regret, in my opinion.
  • When your office is in shambles with everything all over the floor and it’s time for you to go home, take the time to clean it up because if you’re anything like me, you will end up coming back at 7:30 that night and clean it up anyway.
  • Sorry I’m not sorry, it’s legitimate to be ridiculously excited that Kate finally gave birth to the new heir to the throne, A PRINCE!
  • If things are great, say they’re great. It will boost your morale!
  • Sometimes people talk in circles, they say things just to get a rise out of you, or to get your approval, those people are the honey dew in your fruit salad. ;) (Thanks Coral)
  • If you want to rap to, “Super Bass, do it and even video Snapchat it to all of those wonderful people that will appreciate something so ridiculous.
  • Seek the doors and open them, stop beating on walls.

Desk Essentials

DSC03644It’s no secret that buying office supplies is a thrill for me. Yes, just typing that makes me feel like an adult, ew. But I do absolutely love it. It used to be school supplies, but now it’s things for my desk and office. It’s easy to rack up a $75 bill at Staples on random crap you think you need, but I’m here to share the items I really love that are worth buying. I also did a similar post to this almost a year ago when I started mgD, so you can check that out here!

Friday Link Love

friday-link-love-headerI hope everyone had a great 4th! I went to see The Heat (SO hilar!) with my mom and Grims. Fancy Pants and I went to dinner and parked in a dirt lot to watch nearby fireworks while sitting on the bed of his truck. It was really really laid back and nice. (Instagram video of Fancy Pants talking during the fireworks found here.) Too bad I had to work today. :(b7b800cce51c11e2a6de22000a1fb5b7_7What July4th outfit would be complete without obnoxious ‘MERICA themed shorts?! Seriously.

I wanted to share a few of the things I was loving this week even though it’s almost 2:00 on Friday. I wanted to whip one post out for today. Better late than never right?

  • You should start out July with the most fun iPhone/iPad/Computer background ever from Harriet Ann Creative. Red, white, and blue with adorable LOBSTERS just screams summer!
  • Currently my favorite songheard it everywhere all the time in LA and now it’s just everywhere and I love. It just makes me wanna groove out all the time. (Do people say that? …No? Okay then it’s still awesome.)
  • Um, hello cutest striped dress. Caroline in the City styled this amazing dress with those adorable booties. Must have all.
  • Need to make a breakout less noticeable asap!? I tried this quick trick with Advil Liquigels and it worked like a charm to remove redness and reduce the size!
  • Denim shorts are an absolute summer must have living in Arizona, but lots of girls don’t know how to wear them day to day without looking like you’re a beach bum. Katie of Katie’s Bliss shares how she styles them, impeccably I might add, and links to other fashionable ladies who do too!
  • I just need this Aphrodite USB Hub for my desk because quite frankly, I have too many USB things to plug in all the time. Plus it’s fabulous.
  • Landon Austin’s version of Avril Lavigne’s  “Here’s to Never Growing Up,” has been on repeat all day.

What are your favorite finds for this week? Share them in the comments. :)

LA & blogshop recap

DSC03908-copyThis post has been long overdue, but I’ve seriously been putting it off for one reason: I didn’t want to think I was back at my desk at work instead of in the beautiful California weather. If you saw my tweets or instagram pictures, you know I was having the time of my life. I was going to do two separate posts for the trip overall and then blogshop, but let’s be real kids, I would’ve never gotten around to two posts. (Sorry I’m not sorry, because this is going to be picture heavy and just long.)

Friday: After a quick plane ride, we got in around 12, but thank you to Super Shuttle looping LAX twice and filling up the van completely, we didn’t see the inside of our hotel room until after 2. We stayed at a small boutique hotel on the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills called the Hotel Beverly TerraceIt was perfect for just Fancy Pants and I and it was well kept with great service. We took naps until we got picked up by Fancy Pants’ cousin for a mini tour around Beverly Hills windows down of course! We spent the rest of the night at a great BBQ at Vance’s cousin and her husband’s house.

DSC03862Saturday: First day of blogshop! It was held in the cutest studio that was put together to the t with adorable decor. Everything was instagram worthy! No detail was ignored down to the plants and gift bags and it made for the perfect creative atmosphere. There was nothing more exciting than just being in a room with 25 other like minded individuals. Just hearing what they did for a living, about their blogs, their lives was so cool. I had never been around so many creatively driven people. The instructors: blogger Bri Emery of Designlovefest & photographer/commercial director, Angela Kohler, fostered a great place to learn Photoshop from top to bottom with every tip and trick in the book. The first day, my head felt like exploding, but in a good way? Even with a background in Photoshop, I learned so much. That night, Fancy Pants and I went to the Grove to walk around and we had an incredible dinner at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant, The Fat CowSeriously, Fancy Pants ordered the best steak I’ve ever eaten in my whole life. I highly recommend this place for the food and great service.

IMG_1562Sunday: Second day of blogshop! This is where they tied a lot of blogging into what we learned the previous day, by making headers, social media icons, mood boards, etc. It was so cool to have so many AHA moments by seeing all I had learned in just two short days. I was happy to have had a really great guide to follow along in and take notes when I needed to. I could not recommend this class enough. It’s truly worth every penny from beginners to those who would say they know Photoshop fairly well because there’s so much you do not even realize you can do and in 1/4 of the time. I met so many amazing and talented women over this short weekend like Jaclyn, Shannon, Ruthie, Amanda, and Ginny (just to name a few!!) You should definitely go check out their sites! After blogshop was probably the most exciting part of the whole trip for me, I met Kimmie of Harriet Ann Creative, in person for dinner! While I was nervous, I was way more excited than anything else. Her and I practically did the cliche girly scream running towards each other and hugging in the middle of what was pretty quiet restaurant, Village Idiot. After months of emails and texts, it obviously felt like I’d known her for years. We talked and talked and it made me even sadder that we didn’t live in the same state and couldn’t do this all the time. Seriously though, she’s one of my favorite people ever and she gave me the cutest striped cocktail napkins that everyone must order NOW.

DSC03870Monday: Last day! :( We checked out of our hotel and went to Santa Monica to the pier and the beach. I can’t tell you the excitement to be back at the Pacific Ocean. It was perfect. Fancy Pants and I grabbed lunch and walked around the Third Street Promenade for a few hours to burn some time before our shuttle picked us up. We called our last Lyft to take us back to the hotel. Seriously, Lyft was one of the coolest finds. Thank you so much to my wonderful sorority sister, Kathleen, for the recommendation. They’re a cheaper taxi alternative that goes all around LA. They’re normal people like you and me that you use an app to call and request and they take you anywhere. Plus you pay through a credit card on the app to make it so easy. Lyft needs to be EVERYWHERE.

DSC03892Okay, back to the recap. Fancy Pants and I had an amazing trip that went by too fast. blogshop is a must do for everyone who’s thinking about it. The experience and knowledge is so worth the expense. I can’t wait to be back in LA again to see more of what I didn’t get to see (including celebs!).

LA Advice?

81a2d681f4b14736c1a68db205f21d54picture via

Hey kids! As most of you know if you follow me on the various social media outlets (twitter, facebook, instagram, don’t mind my shameless self promotion haha), then you’ll know that I will be headed to Los Angeles this weekend for BlogshopLA which I’m EXTREMELY excited for! Fancy Pants has also decided to make the trip out to LA with me to hang out with his cousin who currently has an internship in the city. I will be at blogshop for a majority of the day on Saturday and Sunday, but we’re still looking for fun things to see and do on my down time since we’ll be there from Friday afternoon to Monday night. I’ve never been to LA before and he’s only been once, so we’re open to pretty much anything as long as it’s fairly inexpensive. So this is where y’all come in, what are the must do & see items in the city!? We’re staying in Beverly Hills and blogshop is in West Hollywood, so we’re in close proximity to a lot of things. Leave some ideas in the comments below or tweet them to me! :)

xx – Dan
